The job market has never looked so fragile, the political climate has never been more divided and our calendar has never felt so unpredictable. Abraham experienced many of these same challenges on his journey.
Abraham knew that God was willing and able to keep every promise he made to Abraham. Tip: Make your own list and pray through them. What can we learn from the life of Abraham? God seemed to be contradicting Himself. In spite of the seemingly utter impossibility of the situation, he got up in the morning, packed his donkey, split the wood required for the offering, and started the three-day journey up the mountains with Isaac.
We can imagine he would have been tempted to thoughts of doubt as he took the trek up Mount Moriah. I'll be a murderer. I must have misunderstood; a loving God could not possibly have given such a commandment! These thoughts of doubt that Satan whispered in his ear were deflected and defeated by the shield of faith. He believed beyond a shadow of a doubt that God would keep His promise — even if that meant He had to raise Isaac back up from the dead. Hebrews Of course, God did keep His promise.
At the last second, he stopped Abraham from carrying out his sacrifice, and Isaac was spared, going on to become the father of the nation of Israel. In the same way, we could be tempted to thoughts of doubt when we take a step of faith which God is working in us to do. Hebrews When we have the shield of faith, we too can resist the thoughts of doubt that Satan tries to sow.
The God of Abraham is the same God whom we serve today. No matter how impossible circumstances seem, God is able to do a miracle in my life. This is clearly brought out by a comparison of Genesis and 4; Hebrews How God spoke we do not know, but that He did speak we are quite sure, and directly Abraham heard His command, in faith he obeyed.
His obedience was prompt. That He has spoken we are sure, and all that we have to do is promptly to obey His voice. Faith obeys God by launching out upon His promises and by doing His bidding without question.
Has God spoken to you? If so, some very practical action must demonstrate your faith in Him; you must obey Him.
